Advancing our Ground Control Systems for the future

Callen-Lenz is redefining industry standards with a new generation of ground control systems (GCS), built to deliver exceptional user experience, support rapid prototyping, and enable seamless multi-operator control. Focused on innovation, scalability, and autonomy, our cutting-edge solutions are designed to meet the evolving needs of the UAS industry.

At Callen-Lenz, our newly formed team is leading the way in the development of ground control systems setting new standards for the industry. With a clear focus on supporting rapid prototyping and internal flight development, we are dedicated to creating an exceptional user experience (UX) from the ground up, driven by innovation.

What is a Ground Control System?

A Ground Control System (GCS) is a collection of hardware and software tools that enables UAS operators to remotely control and monitor their systems. It serves as the operational hub for mission planning, aircraft control, and data monitoring, typically integrating a laptop with communication equipment.

Through the GCS, operators can manage the UAS during takeoff, flight, and landing while also overseeing flight planning. It provides real-time data and telemetry, enabling operators to monitor aircraft performance and make informed decisions regarding potential adjustments to the system.

What We’re Doing at Callen-Lenz

At Callen-Lenz, we are at the forefront of developing next-generation ground control systems, prioritising the user and championing industry-leading UX with a goal to support the rapid prototyping and development of flight systems.

We are using modern tools and a distributed architecture to ensure that multiple operators will be able to communicate seamlessly while operating independently. This approach maximises scalability, enhances performance through efficient resource utilization, and ensures redundancy and fault tolerance. The system's design will aim to support multi-user and multi-aircraft control, empowering a new level of operational flexibility.

The GCS we are developing intends to fully harness the advanced features of the new autopilot Callen-Lenz is developing, the SC4, providing a powerful platform for future growth and innovation. The GCS will be designed to support multiple autopilots, reducing vendor lock-in and enabling a variety of novel OTC vehicles to be operated according to mission profiles.

Looking ahead, we are focused on developing a forward-deployed client system centred around autonomous flight that enables personnel and operators stationed in the field to focus on mission outcomes, eliminating the heavy user burden of performing multiple roles as pilot and mission-specialist.

At Callen-Lenz, we are committed to providing secure, efficient, and scalable solutions that push the boundaries of what’s possible in the UAS industry. Our team works closely with partners and clients to deliver tailored solutions that meet specific operational needs, ensuring maximum performance and reliability.
