Our Employee in the Spotlight series is a chance to highlight the impact our team members have on the success of Callen-Lenz. This week, we shine a light on Ginny Mills, Senior Productionisation Engineer, exploring her journey into the aerospace industry and her role at Callen-Lenz.
Though I’ve always been creative - and interested in how people interact with product design - I would never have anticipated my career to evolve how it has.
After studying product and industrial design at Sheffield and Salford University, my first manufacturing experience was in the injection moulding industry; working with tooling, and designing with plastics, is a skillset that has proved valuable in all my roles since. Stints in aerospace, packaging machinery and the electric power industries followed, building on my experience, and gaining exposure to many different manufacturing environments.
In my current role at Callen-Lenz as Senior Productionisation Engineer, I work as part of a team bringing prototypes to the production line. Due to our rapid development capability, my role is very diverse, dealing with different situations every day.
I’ve loved my first few months as part of the team at Callen-Lenz: it is an excellent place to work – the company has an abundance of opportunities and room for variety in every role. The rate of growth, as well as the opportunity for personal development, means employees have so many avenues to making a difference in a cutting-edge aerospace company.
If I could offer one piece of advice for those in any stage of their career, it would be to not have any preconceived ideas about what your path may look like. Never did I imagine I’d be working for a leading UAS company, but it’s funny how careers evolve and how transferable experience can be.
